YOUNG ATHLETES SHINE IN WEST MIDLANDS CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE SERIES

It was another successful day for Bromsgrove and Redditch young athletes at the final fixture of the West Midlands Young Athletes’ Cross Country League at Perry Barr, Birmingham on Sunday February 14th. Medals were awarded for the top individual performers (with the best 4 performances out of the 5 races counting) and the best teams (over the 5 races).
Top of the pile was Conor Smith who improved from second last year to win the individual under 17 men’s title. He also won the final league race on Sunday.
Ellen Bowen continued her good form and was second in the overall under 15 girls competition and second in Sunday’s race. Alice Battey and Anna Nicod were also individual medal winners coming 4th and 6th overall and finishing 4th and 8th respectively in Sunday’s race. The under 15 girls team finished second overall having won four out of the five fixtures, they only lost out on the championship by failing to close a team of 5 in the first fixture.
Other top twenty individual performances in Sunday’s races came from Natalie Hatfield (4th in the under 13 girls), Josh Robins (6th in the under 13 boys), brother Finnan Robins (7th in the under 11 boys), Tom Deykin (12th in the under 15 boys) and Gareth Richardson (17th in the under 17 boys).
The young athletes are now looking forward to competing in the English National Cross Country Championships at Castle Donington.
