Masters Throws Pentathlon

British master’s throw’s pentathlon championships – Oxford Sunday 8th May 2022

On Sunday 8th May 2 of Bromsgrove and Redditch Athletic Clubs (B&RAC) athletes competed in the British Masters Throws pentathlon championships in Oxford for athletes over 35 years of age.

This event sees the athletes taking part in 5 throwing events with points allocated for the distances thrown.

In the women’s event B&RAC saw Julie Wakelam take second place in her field gaining the silver medal with a total point score of 3004. Julie’s distances were Hammer 30.86m, Shotput 6.44m, discus 18.16m, javelin 17.59m and weight throw 11.51m getting herself 3 season bests performances along the way.

In the men’s event B&RAC’s Sam Cater retained his throws pentathlon title with first place and gold medal in a very close competition against northern master’s athlete Mike Martin. Sam ended his day with 2200 points and his individual distances were Hammer 32.02m, shotput 10.17m, discus 29.27m, javelin 35.40m and weight throw 9.66m. getting 2 seasons best performances through the day.

The B&RAC athletes will be out in force on Saturday 14th May at the Worcestershire county track and field championships held in Stourport, and a team B&RAC athletes are heading off to the Hilly100 on Sunday 15th May.
