In spite of the damp weather conditions and a few spaces in the team sheet, B&R athletes once again gave a solid performance, comfortably retaining their third position in the league.
Polly Gerner took first place in the W60 200m and also achieved second in the W50 Long Jump, setting a new W60 club record of 3.74
Julie Wakelam once again showed her versatility in the field events placing third in the W35 Triple Jump, W40 High Jump and W40 Discus.
Sharon Samuel ran a strong race to first place in the W50 200m setting a new PB of 29.9
Debbie Ricci took second place in W40 200m, with a seasons best time.
Jo Frost, still recovering from injury, demonstrated her dominance in the W35 200m with a first place finish.
Lucy Bristow ran a tough race in the W40 800m, achieving second place and new PB of 2:45.5
Mary Morris, new to the team for this match, made a strong debut performance in the W50 800m, placing fourth.
Jane Anderson made a welcome return to the team, placing third in the W35 800m and also nobly filling the W35 race walk slot immediately afterwards.
Alison Pickup placed fourth in the W40 3000m.
In the M70 bracket Len Quartly achieved PBs in the javelin and shot putt, 3rd place in the 2K walk and 4th place in the 200m.
Vito Ricci threw over 26m to earn 4th place in the discus.
Sam Cater threw 9.50m during the M35 shot putt competition claiming 3rd.
Martin Aspley-Davis walked 2 km into 2nd place ranking him 2nd overall for M40’s UK this year. He also jumped into 3rd place in the HJ and 2nd place during the javelin competition.
Brian Alner assisted the team ably claiming valuable points over the 800m and 200m distances. Much shorter than what he’s used to but picking up PB’s in the process!
In the M40 800m and 3000m Calvin Scoltock ran well to claim 2nd place in both with two season bests of 2.15 and 10.18.
In the midst of marathon training Gavin Moorhead ran just 0.4 sec off his 3000 PB and achieved a time of 2.25 his debut in the 800m.
Russell Hingley won the M35 200m claiming maximum points and Peter Mould ran the M60 200m in a time of 28.6 to win by over a second.
Jason Cashmore ran well to come 2nd in the M40 200m, running a SB time, which warmed him up well for the 4×400 relay.
The evening concluded with the 4x400m relay. The B&R ladies team of Ricci, Samuel, Bristow and Frost completely dominated the event finishing in a blisteringly fast 4:49.5 ,less then two seconds off the W35 club record for the event. The men’s relay squad of Hingley, Scoltock, Cashmore and Aspley-Davis ran superbly, never relinquishing their lead and eventually won by a margin of 8 seconds, setting a new M40 club record.
Well done to all athletes and thank you to all supporters. Big thank you to Paul and Irene who missed the action but without them we’d have no results!
